CEIJA STOJKA: MAKING VISIBLE

We are pleased to share the opening of Ceija Stojka: Making Visible at The Drawing Center, on view from February 20 through June 7, 2026, with an opening reception on February 19 at 6 PM at 35 Wooster Street, New York.
This important exhibition is dedicated to the life and work of Ceija Stojka (1933–2013) — artist, writer, activist, and Holocaust survivor. Bringing together more than sixty paintings, drawings, sketchbooks, archival materials, and films, the presentation traces two decades of her artistic practice and highlights the urgency and poetic force with which she transformed memory into image.
Stojka’s work moves between luminous recollections of Roma life before the war and stark, unflinching testimonies of persecution and survival. Her visual language is direct and deeply human – a language of remembrance, resilience, and presence. Through color, line, and repetition, she insisted on visibility: for herself, for her community, and for history.

We are especially honored that the exhibition also includes works by Ceija Stojka from the Kai Dikhas Collection. Their presence underscores our ongoing commitment to preserving and sharing the artistic legacy of Sinti and Roma artists, and to situating Stojka’s practice within a broader, living cultural continuum.
