“Kushti Bok” is a greeting used by English Romani Travellers in their language, Anglo-Romani. It wishes the other person “good appetite” — also in a figurative sense. The german artist David Weiss adopts this expression, for what could describe his art better? With his characteristic curiosity for diverse cultures and events, and his hunger for life — what better could one wish another in the face of today’s darkness than the optimism and hope that this hunger may one day be fulfilled?
David Weiss is not only one of the artists featured in the current exhibition No a las máquinas, which addresses the sociological and ecological impacts of industrial, “apocalyptic” agriculture, but also an agricultural scientist specializing in agro-ecology. In conversation with Moritz Pankok, artistic director of the Kai Dikhas Foundation and co-curator of the exhibition, the artist provides insight into his working methods, his multifaceted sources of inspiration, and his often humorous and creative engagement with the present — in short, his hunger for new art.
