The non-profit foundation Kai Dikhas (Romani: ‘place to see’) promotes the art and culture of the Sinti* and Roma* in order to make it accessible to a wider public and give Sinti* and Roma* artists space to express themselves.

The foundation also supports projects related to the art and culture of Sinti* and Roma*, organizes exhibitions and art workshops, and publishes editions. Its collection comprises more than 320 works by contemporary Sinti and Roma artists, including paintings, drawings, sculptures, prints, photographs, installations, and digital art. In view of the transnational character of Sinti* and Roma* culture, the foundation has built an extensive network with artists from various European countries and draws on many years of experience in organizing international exhibitions. Exhibitions by Kai Dikhas have been shown, among other places, in Paris (2016), Prague (2017), Madrid (2017) and Granada (2018), at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin (2019), at the Venice Biennale (2019), at the Mucem (Marseille, 2023), IVAM (Valencia, 2024), and “Personal Structures” (Venice, 2024).

The Kai Dikhas Foundation emerged in 2020 from the gallery of the same name, which was founded in 2011 by Moritz Pankok (curator, director, and stage designer) and Matthias Koch (managing director of Aufbau Haus GmbH) as the first permanent gallery for contemporary art by Sinti* and Roma* artists. It is based at the Aufbau Haus at Moritzplatz in Berlin.

In recognition of its work, Gallery Kai Dikhas received the Premio de la Cultura Gitana in 2016 from the Instituto de la Cultura Gitana in Madrid.
