Wer hat meinen Baum gefällt - Ceija Stojka

Text on the back of the picture:

In 100 years, even the tree stump will be gone

Who cut down my tree?

The women saw the tree stump – who knows

if they might not have believed my words

about my tree of life

Back in 1989, I found the spot quite spontaneously in Bergen-Belsen

where

my mum and I had been back in 1945

in that horrific extermination camp

me, my granddaughter Simone and my mum

I was paralysed for a brief moment – this is the

spot. I didn’t immediately think of my tree of life

Since I knew that the Allied forces had set the whole

camp on fire. I thought that this

I searched for the spot where my mother and I had sat back then

It wasn’t I who found the tree; the tree found me.

It suddenly appeared before my eyes. At that moment

the spot before me was confirmed.

My God, I found the spot and my tree

and that after so many years.

Lisa and all the many women who pray in Bergen-Belsen

and drum for peace back to Bergen-Belsen. It is 19 October 1996.

Lisa and the women are observing a five-day fast.

They are fasting for the restless souls and for

peace on this earth. Yes, it is a major

event that no one is reporting on. Yes, who is supposed to

Well, my fears were confirmed. My tree of life

is gone. I said to Lisa (… 3 lines missing)
